He asks Elliot where the penguin came from and Elliot tells him it was the southern tip of Argentina. Elliot draws him a bath the next morning, which Magellan is enjoying until Elliot’s father comes in and finds him. Magellan sleeps in the freezer and has eaten all the frozen seafood by morning. He heats up frozen pizzas, with anchovies, for Magellan’s dinner.
Elliot tells his father that he needs to go to the library to do some research on Magellan and his father mentions that he had to do research once on Captain Cook.
He turns the air conditioning to his coldest setting and creates an ice skating rink in his room for the penguin, named Magellan. Elliot pops the smallest penguin into his backpack and takes him home. He asks his father if he can have one and his father, thinking he means a stuffed penguin, agrees. Since the penguins seem to be dressed as formally as he is, he likes them right away. Elliot skips the crowded exhibits and heads for the penguins.
